I know, I am one of those tourists too! I usually travel with three cameras 🙂
I even take selfies.
However, I don’t think the problem is in taking pictures. It is about balance, as with most things in life. And about staying enough aware of your environment that you don’t replace real excitement with delayed gratification in social media likes.

Great post! I hate going to places that are overly touristy, and Italy ranks low on my list of places to visit for this exact reason. It’s where everyone goes, and it’s so crowded with people who just want to take photos to show to their friends back home rather than actually experiencing the place for what it is. Thanks for sharing!

Ivan, I totally agree with your article. For some (maybe most) of the tourists would be no point in traveling if they wouldn’t have cameras with them. Don’t you think? “Why would I go visit the site if I cannot take a selfie?”
